The journal is issued 12 times annually with content including
articles by domestic and foreign authors. The journal is edited collaboratively
by eminent academics from Japan, the United States, Europe and Asia. Board member
Hiroshi Shimizu became Editor-in-Chief in 2003, furthering its reputation as
an international dermatological journal.
The Society hosts an annual 3-day event featuring academic lectures and research presentations. During the congress, the Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology Award (JSID Award) and JSID's Fellowship Shiseido Award (Shiseido Award) are presented along with awarding the Diploma of Dermatological Scientist, which aims at the cultivation and support of foreign students. The Tanioku Kihei Memorial Lecture and JSID Award winner's lecture are also presented at the congress.

The Society is associated with the Japanese Dermatological Association, the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID) of the United States and the European Society for Investigative Dermatological Research (ESDR). Academic research findings are exchanged worldwide through the International Investigative Dermatology Conference (IID), which is held on a regular basis.
